Building Typology

What building typology are you researching?

High School

Why are you researching this building typology?

I hope to design a high school that will provide an environment highly conducive to education and at the same time create a structure that symbolizes the importance of education in the community and helps infuse aesthetic energy into the surrounding neighborhood.

What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research?

I am building a small charter high school. It will feature the basic amenities of a high school along with studio space and a department for architectural design.

What are the examples that you will be researching?

1. New Rochelle High School

What are your goals for working with this building type?

My goal is to produce a structure worthy to serve as the foundation for high school education. The building shall go beyond simply satisfying the functions of a high school; it shall serve as the cornerstone of secondary education for the surrounding area. I intend on making spaces that both fulfill their functions and articulate their environment.

What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building?

I will include all of the basic features of a high school, including an outdoor recreational space, a small music room, classrooms, cafeteria, and space for a drafting/designing studio and lab.
